Academic Senate

The Academic Senate, representing the faculty of Grossmont College, consults collegially with both the college administration and the Governing Board (in line with AB1725) to reach mutual agreement on the development of policies and procedures related to academic and professional matters.

 


Academic & Professional Matters

  1. Curriculum:
    Establishing prerequisites and aligning courses within disciplines.
  2. Degree & Certificate Requirements:
    Ensuring clarity and rigor in academic pathways.
  3. Grading Policies:
    Promoting fair and consistent evaluation standards.
  4. Educational Program Development:
    Innovating and enhancing academic offerings.
  5. Student Success Standards:
    Setting policies to optimize student preparation and achievement.
  6. Governance Structures:
    Defining faculty roles within district and college governance.
  7. Accreditation Involvement:
    Guiding faculty participation in the college's self-study and annual reports.
  8. Professional Development:
    Establishing policies for faculty growth and learning.
  9. Program Review Processes:
    Evaluating and improving academic programs.
  10. Institutional Planning & Budgeting:
    Collaborating on strategic planning and resource allocation.
  11. Other Matters:
    Addressing additional academic and professional issues as mutually agreed upon with the Governing Board.

Meeting Schedule

Academic Senate meetings are generally held on the first, third, and fifth Mondays of the month.

 

Time: 11 a.m.–12:20 p.m.
Regular location: Griffin Gate

Format: In person only

On November 18, 2024, the Academic Senate voted to end teleconferencing for Senate meetings.

Retreats, special meetings, and other exceptions may occur on different days or in different locations; specific dates and locations are included in the meeting schedule.
