English

It’s More than Grammar.

Studying English means learning for life. The discipline of English helps you to improve your written communication. It opens you to a world of diverse cultural and critical perspectives while it sharpens your ability to express yourself reasonably, critically, and creatively. The study of composition, literature, and creative writing connects you to communities of thinkers and explorers of written expression. You can become a more well-rounded person, more engaged citizen, more desirable job candidate in a variety of fields, and more effective learner across your entire curriculum. English courses create unique opportunities to engage and collaborate with intellectual and artistic people who share a love of writing and discourse.

Duration
In addition to transfer-level composition, literature, and creative writing courses, the English department offers an Associate Degree in Arts for Transfer (ADT), an Associate of Arts (AA) degree, and Associate of Arts degree with an emphasis in Creative Writing, and a Certificate of Achievement in Creative Writing. Our degrees are designed to be completed in 2 years (4 semesters).
