The Theater Arts Department at Grossmont College is designed to provide academic knowledge
and practical training in all aspects of theater arts. The curriculum provides the
essential lower-division courses for four-year institutions, as well as for assisting
students in employment in the professional and community theater. Areas of emphasis
include acting, musical theater, and technical tracks (costume design, theater make-up,
scenic design, stage lighting, and sound design).
Classes range from Introduction to Narrative Theory and Introduction to the Theater to Advanced Design and Musical Theater Performance.
The Theater Arts Department at Grossmont College is renowned for its critically acclaimed
productions at the Stagehouse Theater campus, providing a professional entry to practice
their craft both on stage and behind the scenes.
Careers in the theater are remarkably diverse and include such professions as technicians (lighting, sound, projections, special effects, etc.), scenic and costume design, internships, production manager, house manager, and marketing. Internships are encouraged, and the faculty and staff of the Theater Department have a wealth of professional experience.
