Rachel Holdt, MFA, is a dance artist, choreographer, filmmaker, published dance scholar, Pilates Instructor and performance artist. As former student of community college programs, Rachel is a strong supporter of community college dance programs. She completed her BA at UC Riverside in Dance, and immediately went on to obtain her MFA in Dance Choreography at Mills College in Oakland, CA.

 

Rachel has been dancing for over 23 years. She is a former member of Born Dance Company out of Los Angeles, Re-Memberings Dance Company including touring their work in South Africa, and has been creating her own dance works for stage and screen over the past fifteen years. In addition to creating stage dance, Rachel specializes in performative technologies and collaborative works highlighting the interdisciplinary aspects of her performance expertise.

 

Her most notable professional works include Trolley Dances--San Diego (2013 & 2014), an evening length collaborative show with Jean Isaacs of San Diego Dance Theater (2015), and performances at Leucadia Art Walk (2016). Her work in dance film, Qualia, was featured in the Student Filmmaker Awards in 2015.

 

With training in BASI Pilates under Karen Clippinger of Long Beach, CA, and a national certification with Pilates Method Alliance, Rachel has had the opportunity to teach Pilates in corporate, studio, and academic environments over the past fifteen years. Having a dance specialty with her Pilates Certification, she enjoys teaching students of all capabilities and with multiple movement modalities. Currently she is pursuing a Cancer Exercise Specialist certificate with the Cancer Exercise Institute.

 

In addition to teaching at Grossmont College, Rachel is also on staff at Mt. San Jacinto and Mira Costa Colleges.
