How to Log into Canvas
In this guide you will learn how to log into the Canvas Learning Management System at Grossmont College and change your default password once you have logged in.
Please note: If you are a new student, your Canvas account will be available approximately six hours after you have completed the registration for your first course.
If it has been more than 9 hours since you registered for your first course and you have issues logging into Canvas, please contact the Canvas 24/7 Support line at 1-844-600-4953.
Step 1
- We recommend accessing Canvas by using the Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox web browsers.
- A link to Canvas is located in the upper right corner of every page on the Grossmont website.
- You may also access Canvas by typing "gcccd.instructure.edu" into the url address bar of your web browser
We recomment that you add a bookmark to Canvas in your web browser so that you can easily login to Canvas in the event that the Grossmont website is offline.
Step 2
- Your login ID is the same as your Self-Service Username or your legal firstname.lastname.
- Your initial password is your eight digit birthdate (ie: 07151995 for July 15, 1995).
- Click "Log In".
Change your Default Password
For security purposes, we recommend that you immediately change your default password once you have successfully logged in to Canvas.
- Click on "Account" in the global navigation pane on the left side of the Canvas window.
- Select "Settings"
- Click "Edit Settings" on the left-side of the settings page.
- Check the "Change Password" box.
- Enter your default password in the "Old Password" box.
- Type the New Password you would like to use in the two New Password boxes.
- Click the "Update Settings" button to save the changes.
