Who can shop at the Gizmo's Kitchen Pantry?

The Gizmo's Kitchen Pantry is open to all currently enrolled Grossmont College students. There are no income requirements and you do not need to provide proof of income to receive benefits.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring a reusable shopping bag with you.

Biodegradable produce bags may be available at the check-in table for open fruit/vegetables, but these bags are not intended to hold heavier, packaged items.

How do I check in?

A San Diego Food Bank Application must be completed on your first visit. Upon arrival for your weekly shopping trip, provide proof of enrollment via Canvas  to the pantry staff member at the front desk.

Please note that a line to check in may form during busy times, such as when the pantry opens and during passing periods. A maximum of 6 people are allowed in the pantry at once to ensure a comfortable shopping experience for all.

Are there limits while shopping?

A maximum of 10 items may be selected at each weekly shopping trip.

Shopper may select no more than two of the same item. Any items that are limited to less than two will have a sign indicating the quantity limit per person for that day. Item limits are used for popular foods that are not always in stock, such as eggs and snacks. Some items may count as multiple items, such as blankets or toiletries. Items that count as multiple items will be marked. We kindly ask that everyone follow the posted item limits to ensure as many students as possible have access to those items as well.

Shoppers will have a 10 minute shopping window to allow us to serve as many students as possible. When you finish shopping you will need to show your items to pantry staff to check out.

Follow the Grossmont College Student Affairs Instagram  to see which fruits and vegetables are available.

How often can I visit?

Students can check in and shop for food once a week when classes are in session during routine Gizmo's Kitchen Pantry Hours, Tuesday -Thursday from 10am-4pm. Please note the Gizmo's Kitchen Food Pantry will be closed during special events and on the third Tuesday monthly for the campus food distribution.

What items are available?

Gizmo's Kitchen Pantry features food, personal care items, and clothing. Available items rotate frequently. Food is either purchased from the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank or donated to the pantry.

Why do I need to register to use the pantry?

Registration for the pantry is necessary to help us keep track of usage statistics for our partnership with the San Diego Food Bank. This involves reporting the number of unique users and their visits. We assure you that your personal details, including your name, are kept confidential. Registration is required only to monitor the frequency of pantry use for reporting purposes.

What if I have allergies or special dietary needs?

We strive to accommodate allergies and dietary needs but may not be able to meet every need. Please be sure to read product labels carefully to ensure items will work for you. You may also indicate any specific requirements on the registration form so we can do our best to tailor our offerings to you. If you have any specific requests or suggestions, please let a staff member know and we'll consider them for our future shopping lists. Your input helps us serve you better!

If you have any questions while shopping, please ask an Gizmo's Kitchen Pantry staff member in a green apron.
