Lorena Ruggero is director of College & Community Relations at Grossmont College, a community college located in El Cajon, Calif. As director, she plans, implements and coordinates internal and external communications at Grossmont College. She also liaises with colleagues with the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District on projects of shared interest.

 

Before coming to Grossmont College, Ruggero served as marketing and communications manager for Associated Students of San Diego State University Inc., a non-profit auxiliary of SDSU. With an annual budget of $21 million, AS of SDSU manages several on- and off-campus facilities in addition to serving as the voice of SDSU students. As manager, she assisted with external marketing of AS-managed facilities, served as advisor to the AS Marketing and Communications Committee and liaised with SDSU Marketing & Communication's on projects of shared interest.

 

Prior to her role in AS, Ruggero worked in the SDSU Marketing & Communications Department. Most recently, she served as editor, new media, where she launched SDSU NewsCenter, the source for SDSU news, in addition to producing new media content for SDSU social media channels such as video and photography. Before that, she served as media relations specialist at SDSU, specializing in science and technology news and working with local, regional and national media outlets.

 

Ruggero started her career at Allison + Partners, an international, full-service communications firm headquartered out of San Francisco, Calif. While there, she worked on a variety of accounts for the San Diego and Los Angeles offices in sectors including consumer services, hospitality and tourism, and professional services.

 

Ruggero is a two-time alumna of SDSU, with both master's and bachelor's degrees from the School of Journalism and Media Studies. In addition to her role at Grossmont College, Ruggero is lecturer in the public relations program at SDSU.
