ASL-English Interpreter / Captionist / Transcriber Handbook

Student Absences

As per DSP&S policy, DHH students are required to give a 24-hour notice for any class absence or cancelation. When the student fails to notify DSP&S and does not show up to the class, interpreters are required to wait a minimum of 20 minutes. If the class assignment is more than 2 hours, please wait 30 minutes.

If the student is a no-show, the interpreter must call/text the Interpreter Coordinator's cell phone to find out if s/he is needed elsewhere. If the Coordinator does not answer, please leave a message (preferably by text) and be accessible by cell for at least 10 minutes for a response back.

All interpreters will be paid for the full class period and should be available during that time period to work unless otherwise notified. If you are offered a replacement assignment during this time and are unable to work, then you be unable to bill for the canceled class time.

If the student calls / texts the interpreter directly about being absent, please contact the Interpreter Coordinator immediately.

Interpreters will be paid for all classes or assignments that are canceled with less than 24 hours notice.
