Exercise: Paragraph Sequencing

In ten minutes, compose a paragraph of instruction or advice in response to one of the following three topics. (You will be assigned one of them.) Note: This is NOT a collaborative group activity.

Remember, you have 10 minutes. Use all of that time wisely. If you finish before the time, go back and continue to refine and add more content. This will NOT be collected or graded, so do not worry about spelling or punctuation. However, try to make your paragraph as organized, coherent and well developed as possible in the time you have. Furthermore, you may be called upon to present your paragraph to the class, so consider just how public you want your response to be. Consider the appropriateness of your topic and your language.

What are you really good at making or doing? In a single, but well developed paragraph, take readers through the steps of that process and keep them interested.

How do you get to your favorite place in San Diego or the surrounding areas? In a single, but well developed paragraph, take readers through directions to navigate them to that place.

What social problem concerns you greatly? In a single, but well developed paragraph, explain to readers how we might understand that problem. (You don't have to try to solve it, just explain it.)
