Some Things to Study for Quiz #2

Since quiz #1, we have discussed quite a bit of information related to Techniques in GIS, including working with data tables, data acquisition and related issues (quality, standards, error, accuracy, precision, etc), GPS and the transition from GPS to GIS, and some information related to Analysis in GIS including georeferencing, geoprocessing, and some of the more commonly used geoprocessing tools.  Below is a list of a few of the many things that you should be familiar with from our lectures for Quiz #2.  In other words, don't just study only the information suggested below, but all of your notes, handouts, and web content since Quiz #1.

When looking at an attribute table, what field contains the spatial information?

What attributes in a table are mandatory for a shapefile to exist?

What are the differences between a "Join" and a "Relate" operation when combining a non-spatial data table with a spatial data table?

What is SQL and how is it used when querying attribute table data?

Know the common ArcGIS analysis tools as seen in THX #7, in terms of their name, and their function (input vs output).  Can you
provide the correct tool name if given the illustration of how the tool works (the "before and after" illustration)?

What are some data quality standards considerations that should be observed when obtaining data from the Internet?

Be familiar with GPS including how it works, the different components and the details of those component, sources of GPS waypoint inaccuracies, triangulation vs. trilateration.

What file type has the extension ".e00" ? (Hint:  If you are not sure, see the last page of Lab #2.)
