Prerequisite, Corequisite, and Recommended Preperation

ANY prerequisite or corequisite listed on the Course Outline of Record will be fully enforced; only students who have met the established prerequisite or corequisite will be allowed to enroll in the course through WebAdvisor.

The process for Cross-discipline prerequisites is still in the "works". The process will be the same at Grossmont and Cuyamaca. Updated information will become available as the process is finalized.

When will I need to go through a Curriculum Proposal process to change something related to prerequisites, corequisites or recommended preps? Whenever you change a prerequisite, corequisite, or recommended prep, this includes any modifications or eliminations. See the steps involved for making Course Modifications. Make sure you also follow the requirements explained in Content Review. PLEASE consider UPDATING your outline at the same time as you make these changes to your prerequisites if it has been more than 5 years since you last updated the course outline.

Do Cuyamaca and Grossmont have to agree on the same approval process or same types of evidence for clearance of recommended preps and prerequisite taken at a different institution? No. The clearance procedures can be different at each college. They do not have to be the same. BUT, if a student is cleared at one college through their procedures, they are cleared for us at the same time since that clearance gets put into the system. So it seems to make more sense that they ARE the same, but they do not have to be the same.

If we have Recommended Preparations on some of our courses, do we have to align those with Cuyamaca? No. Recommended preps are informational for students, and, even with aligned courses, one college could include a Recommended Prep while the other college does not.
