Grossmont Gives Back: Month of Service, 2018 Volunteer Opportunites

This semester we have a selection of service opportunities from serving a meal to the hungry at Father Joe's Village in downtown San Diego to helping manage an art project at the 48th annual Chicano Park Day Celebration, and cummulating with a dodge ball/food drive tournament. 

We invite everyone: students, faculty, and staff to participate in one, some, or all of the events                                                                    

Grossmont Gives Back Sign-Up Event

Tuesday, April 3rd. 

Location: Griffen Center, outside of the ASGC office, 10 am - 1 pm

Want to get involved in our community through a Grossmont Gives Back event, and you like being first in line? Then this is your chance to sign-up early for our Month of Service events. Stop by and say, "hi" and learn more about our service opportunities this spring.  

Campus Beautification Project

Friday, April 6th

Location: Health & Sciences Complex Lobby, Building 34, 8:30 am - 12 pm

Did you know that Grossmont is committed to reducing its environmental impact with its innovative and eco-savy buildings and grounds? At this event, volunteers will learn about our college's commitment to building a sustainable and environmentally conscious campus as well as the unique geology surrounding us. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to get involved with one of its innovative design elements, and work together to preserve the beauty of our campus. 

Serving Lunch or Dinner to San Diego's Hungry

Friday, April 13th from 10:30 am -1 pm or 4 pm - 7 pm

Location: Father Joe’s Village (St. Vincent de Paul), 1501 Imperial Ave, San Diego, CA 92101.  

Volunteers will help prepare and serve lunch (10:30am - 1pm) or dinner (4 pm - 7 pm) to residents and guests at the downtown facility.  Due to the limited volunteer spaces for this project, this volunteer opportunity is only open to Grossmont students and select faculty at this time.! * This project requires you to print and sign this release form, this volunteer agreement for Father Joe's Village, and complete this food handler's survey. Please turn in your signed and completed forms the day of the event.

Community Art at Chicano Park

Saturday, April 21st

Location: Chicano Park, Barrio Logan, 8 am - 5 pm

***This Event is at capacity, and we are no longer accepting volunteers***Join the greater San Diego community as they celebrate the beauty and heritage of Chicano Park at the 48th annual Chicano Park Day celebration. Volunteers will lead and manage art workshops for the attending community. Sign-up for a two or three-hour shift and then enjoy an afternoon of music, art, and dance. Bring your friends and family to show off your bad, cultered self. 

Dodgeball Tournament to Benefit Gizmo's Kitchen

Friday, April 27th

Location: Main Gym, 1 pm - 4 pm

Join us for an all-campus dodgeball tournament that will benefit Gizmo's Kitchen (our student food pantry on campus). Bring your A game, at least 6 of your closest friends, and a bag of non-perishable food items to compete against other students, staff, and faculty. An awards ceremony and Month of Service pizza party celebration with follow the tournament.
