Tenured: Past Full-Time English Faculty

The "Tenured" wing of the English Department Archives will undergo renovations and updates during the Fall 2016 semester. Look for the new and improved Archives in January 2017.  See below for an overview of past full-time faculty who have served the Department from 1961 to present, or visit Department ChairsHiring History, or Part-Time Faculty for additional information.

Note: The term "Full-Time English Faculty" is here used comprehensively to identify any instructor who accepted a salaried position on staff in the English Department between 1961 and present, and who is no longer serving the Department full-time. Such instructors will be included in this wing of the archive whether or not they 1) served the Department until retirement; 2) transferred to another District department, program, or office before their retirement; or 3) reneged on, or otherwise terminated, their employment contract with the District.

OTHER FULL-TIME FACULTY

During its first several years of the operation, Grossmont College contracted some of its contract faculty with skill sets in multiple disciplines to teach in two (or more) related departments. This practice was discontinued by 1968, when the English Department started to expand its faculty and course offerings; these individuals, however, are part of the our Department's legacy, and we owe them a debt of gratitude for their help to launch the English Department in its first years of instruction.

Similarly, some of our distinguished retirees lead the ESL program under the auspices of the English Department. ESL has since become an independent department of instruction, but these colleagues nevertheless contributed significantly to the growth and development of our English Department.

In rare cases, instructors were hired and processed to be on staff in the English Department, but, because either their minds changed or their circumstances changed, they never officially began teaching full-time at Grossmont. These are included below, not so much in gratitude for their contributions to the Department's legacy, but rather for the archival record of their brief part in the English Department's hiring history.
