What is TAG? TAG stands for Transfer Admission Guarantee. It is an agreement
between UCSD and Grossmont College that gives transfer students guaranteed
admission to UCSD upon fulfilling the requirements.

Students should plan their program with a counselor at Grossmont College and
meet the following requirements to obtain TAG:
TAG Requirements:
- Meet minimum eligibility for UC Admission as a transfer student
including 60 UC-transferable units.
- Maintain a minimum grade-point average of 2.8 in all transferable
units and be in good academic standing at all 4 year institutions.
- Clear all high school deficiencies or omissions, or pass the following
subjects with a "C" grade or better the following subjects for minimum
eligibility: 2 UC-transferable English composition courses, 1 UC-transferable
mathematics course and 4 UC-transferable college courses chosen from at
least 2 of the following subject areas: arts and humanities, social and
behavioral science, and physical and biological science. See the

Transfer Requirements list of courses. These courses must be completed by
spring if applying for a fall term, by fall if applying for a spring term,
and by summer if applying for a winter term.
- Complete all TAG core courses for general education (as stated on this
page) with minimum of "C" grades. Must also establish residency for
admission purposes by completing 30 UC-transferable units at Grossmont
College or at a participating TAG college and the last regular term
attended must be at a California Community College. TAG core courses must
be completed by the dates listed in #3 above.
- Sign a TAG agreement with a Grossmont College counselor. Must have
completed a minimum of 20 UC-transferable units with 2.8 GPA prior to
signing TAG.
- Submit an official UC Admission Application for admission within the
published deadlines for the quarter applicable on the TAG agreement. See
the UC Admission Application for filing dates.
- After admission, the Statement of Intention to Register (SIR) must be
returned to UCSD by the deadline stated on the Intent to Register form.
Advantages of TAG:
- Transfer is guaranteed for any quarter. Space will be held for you at
the UCSD college of your choice.
- General Education applicability is guaranteed. All courses in the UCSD
General Education Core are guaranteed to apply toward the completion of
College GE requirements.
- Students are better served. Students will be able to plan their
educational programs properly and benefit from support services through
the university, as well as community colleges.
- Only TAG transfer students are accepted for transfer in Winter or
Spring quarters.
TAG Restrictions:
- Transfer guarantee agreements must be signed and submitted to UCSD at
least one full month prior to the beginning of the admission application
filing period. T.A.G. deadlines are:
Fall: September 30
Winter: May 31
Spring: August 31
TAG agreements cannot be written for more than two years in advance of the
transfer quarter.
- Restricted Students: Not available to:
- Foreign students with a visa. NOTE: Students with permanent resident
status are not considered to be foreign students.
- Students who are not in good standing at a UC Campus (below a 2.0
GPA)
- Students currently holding a BA or BS degree.
- Students whose total combined two-year and four-year (including University
Extensions) transferable work exceeds 90 semester units.
- Students who are not classified California residents for fee purposes at
community college. UC residency criteria may differ for fee purposes.
- Students with less than 20 transferable semester units or less than a 2.8
GPA
- High School students who are concurrently enrolled at a community
college and have not yet earned a diploma.
- Former admitted and registered UCSD students.
- Impacted Majors at UCSD: Some majors at UCSD are impacted. Guaranteed
admission to UCSD does not ensure admission to any majors upon transfer.
Impacted majors: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Bioengineering,
Bioengineering: Biotechnology. Students
will be admitted as pre-majors in the following areas: Bioengineering:
Premedical; Engineering
Physics; Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts (ICAM) in Music and Visual Arts;
Literature/Writing; Math: Computer Science and Human Development.
Students wishing to apply for the pre-major in Biology with a
Specialization in Bioinformatics; Bioengineering with a Specialization in
Bioinformatics; Chemistry/Biochemistry with a Specialization in
Bioinformatics; Computer Science with a Specialization in Bioinformatics
must apply to one of the related majors within the departments of Computer
Science and Engineering, Bioengineering. Chemistry/Biochemistry or
the Division of Biological Sciences.
- You will have to fulfill all the requirements listed on the TAG
application.

TRANSCRIPTS ( sent directly from your home institution to UCSD). If you are unable to obtain a
transcript from your country, you must complete the Foreign Language

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Additional lower-division G.E. requirements for Revelle, John Muir,
Thurgood Marshall, and Eleanor Roosevelt may be completed at Grossmont
College or after transfer to UCSD. These courses should be selected from
approved courses on your breadth articulation agreement. It is advisable
to complete as much as possible at Grossmont College. In addition, John
Muir, Thurgood Marshall, and Eleanor Roosevelt have requirements which
must be taken after transfer to UCSD, which are listed on this contract.
Thurgood Marshall College: Additional coursework
Before transfer:
- In making your core selection E: If you select a year sequence
in natural sciences (biology, chemistry, or physics), you must complete
one additional course in calculus or statistics. If you select a
year sequence in calculus, you must complete two additional semester
courses in natural science, or three quarters at UCSD, one each
discipline.
Additional courses: one course in ethnic studies or third
world studies.
After transfer:
- Complete one course in either Justice or Imagination. (Dimensions of
Culture 2 or 3.))
- Minimum of 15 four-unit upper-division courses, 2 of which must be
non-contiguous to (outside the area of) the major are required.
John Muir College: Additional coursework
By graduation:
- Complete one three-unit (semester system) or one four-unit (quarter
system) course that emphasizes US Cultural Diversity. This course may be
lower or upper-division and it may be taken before or after transfer to
UCSD.
After transfer:
- Take Muir 125 (analytical composition courses).
- Complete one three unit (semester system) or one four-unit (quarter
system) course that emphasizes U.S. Cultural Diversity. This course
my be lower or upper division and it may be taken before or after transfer
to UCSD.
- By graduation a minimum of 18 four-unit upper-division courses is
required.
Revelle College: Additional coursework
Before transfer:
- In making your core selection E: Select 2 courses in calculus. In
addition, one biology and 3 semesters of physics and chemistry (must
include at least one from each subject).
- 1 course in music, art, or theatre to be taken at the community college or
after transfer to UCSD.
- American Culture requirement waived for TAG students.
After transfer:
- Pass the UCSD language exam (written and oral) in any foreign language.
OR
Take 1 additional language course at UCSD after transfer.
- Minimum of 15 four-unit upper-division courses is required.
Complete 2 semester or 3 quarters in one discipline on-contiguous to your
major.
Eleanor Roosevelt College: Additional coursework
Before transfer:
- In making your core selection B: Select 2 courses from art, drama/theatre,
or music. If available, you should take 1 course with a nonwestern
emphasis.
- In making your core selection C: Complete 3rd semester or 4th quarter
level of foreign language at the community college or after transfer to UCSD. Take a 4th quarter of language at UCSD or pass the UCSD language
exam.
- In making your core selection E: Select 2 courses in natural sciences from
biology, chemistry, or physics.
Before or after transfer:
- Two semester courses should be chosen from the following areas: math,
computer programming, logic, and/or statistics (classes may be taken at
the community college or after transfer to UCSD).
After transfer:
- Three quarters in "The Making of the Modern World" requirement must be
taken after transfer to UCSD.
Earl Warren College: Additional coursework
After transfer:
- No additional lower division GE courses are required.
- Minimum of 15 four-unit upper-division courses, 2 of which must be
non-contiguous to (outside the area of) the major are required.
Sixth College
After transfer to UCSD
- No additional lower division GE courses required.
- Minimum of 15 four-unit upper division courses including a
practicum communication requirement and CAT 125, a two unit
practicum writing course.
