Campus Wi-Fi (Grossmont Wireless)

Grossmont College provides numerous wireless access points across campus. Learn how to connect below.

Connecting to Grossmont Wireless

There are three things necessary to get on our Wi-Fi network. You will need know your username, your password, and your device's specific connection procedure.

Part 1 - What's my username?

Your Wi-Fi username is the same one as Canvas and Self-Service. There are two important exceptions. Wi-Fi usernames may be altered if you have a very long name (or multiple surnames). Your Wi-Fi username may also be different if your Canvas/Self-Service name has digits at the end of it.

Wi-Fi usernames cannot be more than 20 characters long -- including the dot (.). Names exceeding that length are cut off at the 20th letter or digit. See examples below:

  • Canvas username alexander.alexingtonstien becomes alexander.alexington when accessing Wi-Fi
  • Canvas username joseph.jayjosephson33679 would be joseph.jayjosephson3 for Wi-Fi

*Note: Your Wi-Fi password is separate from Self-Service or Canvas.

Part 2 - What's my password?

If you are a new student your password is most likely your college PIN. Learn what your PIN is on our Technology Frequently Asked Questions page.

For returning students you may have to update your campus password before logging on to the Wi-Fi. Please attempt to log in to a campus computer with your college PIN (see Frequently Asked Questions link, above) before trying to connect.

For full- or part-time faculty or staff members, use the same password as your GCCCD email / Workday login. If you ever update your email or Workday password, please remember you will use that new password for Campus PCs and Wi-Fi as well.

Part 3 - How do I connect?

On any device, begin by selecting Grossmont Wireless in your device's Wi-Fi menu. On a Windows or Apple device, input your username and campus password in their respective fields. Username and password formats are explained above.

If you're connecting on a Windows device:

  • choose to Connect in the Continue connecting? notification:
    Windows Wi-Fi certificate dialog

On an iOS device (iPhone/iPad):

  • choose to Trust the server certificate in the Certificate dialog box:
    iOS Wi-Fi certificate dialog

*Note: We do not recommend saving to your keychain if prompted.

On a macOS device (MacBook):

  • choose to Continue in the Verify Certificate dialog box
  • You may see the eaptlstrust dialog box. Note this is a setting on your MacBook. You will see your MacBook/MacOS personal account as the username. Enter the password you use on your MacBook, and select Update Settings to save the connection:
    macOS Wi-Fi certificate dialog

*Note: We still do not recommend saving to your keychain if prompted.

If connecting a Chromebook or Android device, see the Android Connection Settings in the section below

Android Connection Settings

If you're on an Android phone or a Chromebook, you will need to specify security settings to make the connection.

Please mimic the following selections (your screen/wording may differ slightly):

  • EAP Method: PEAP
  • Phase 2 Authentication: Automatic or MSCHAPV2
  • CA Certificate: Do not validate or **Use system certificates
  • **Online Certificate Status: **Do not verify
  • **Domain: gcccd.edu (only if required)
  • Identity: Username (as described above)
  • Anonymous Identity: Leave blank
  • Password: Campus password (as described above)

*Note: Not all options may appear; those that do will appear in this order. Selections marked with ** must be input together.

You should now be able to connect. If the connection is refused, check that your campus password hasn’t expired, as described above. If your password is valid, forget the connection on your device and try again.
