| The IDP is a tool that
permits individual faculty/staff members to analyze and identify
their professional development needs, set specific short- and
long-term goals, and decide which activities would best meet those
needs and goals. The areas of development that can be addressed in
an IDP include: (1) competence in the classroom, (2) use of
technology, (3) professional development (within the discipline),
(4) personal growth and development, (5) diversity and
campus/community service.
Undertaking and completing an IDP (a
career-long process) should stimulate useful personal introspection
and focus one’s professional development planning. An annual update
and review by peers and one’s Chair/Coordinator should provide a
helpful sequential audit trail of an individual’s professional
development activities for accounting purposes.
