Topics of Concern.  This workshop will be an overview of several hot topics that impact California Community Colleges. Learn about what is happening locally and in the statewide system. What is the FON Faculty Obligation Number? Why is this number important? What is the 50% Rule? Why is this number important? What are some of the issues to consider with Distance Education and Hybrid Courses? What is the Math/English and Basic Skills Initiative? What do you know about the Student Bill of Rights—Pick a Prof.? There will also be time for questions and answers if time permits.

What about open access in the library on the internet and the issues surrounding Myspace.com? Budget 101 - What faulcty need to know about community college budgets.  Do you wonder where and how money is spent and not spent in this district? Alan Frey will provide an easy to understand explanation of the community college budget process. If you can add and subtract, then you will be able to analyze the GCCCD budget. He will also provide information about salary schedules, and who gets what statewide.

Allocation Formula Update.  Will there be a new allocation formula in the district? The Allocation Task Force has been reviewing the district offices and the services they provide to the college as well as the funding mechanism for the colleges and the district. Listen to your representatives on the task force share the issues and the progress on developing a new way to distribute state revenues.

Tenure Review.  All the requirements of Tenure Review Committee members may be found in Article V of the contract, but attend this workshop to hear about proven success methods and find answers to questions. Attendance at the workshop is required for all faculty and administrators new to service on Tenure Review Committees, and veteran committee members are always welcome to attend and share best practices.

8:30 - 9:30 am 525 Developing Real-Time 3D Curricula.  Have you ever looked at a video game and thought: Wouldn't it be cool if I could do something like that with my subject?  You can!  All it takes is the right software, a LOT of time, and an obsession-like passion to make it happen.  This workshop explores the capabilities of real-time 3D & introduces the required development software.  Gary Jacobson.

Statewide "Hot Topics" in HigherEducation.  Steve Boilard LAO Legislative Analyst's Office, Sacramento Steve was our workshop presenter last year in the Demographics workshop. This workshop will focus on some of the "hot" issues (SB 361/PBF, Equalization, Noncredit, the League's Initiative, Prop 98) in the statewide pipeline that will impact the community colleges.

Matriculation 101: Understanding assessment & utilizing prerequisites effectively.  What is matriculation? Is our matriculation process working smoothly at Grossmont college? If you've ever wondered how under-prepared students end up in your classes, this workshop will explain the placement process from Admissions through Counseling and Follow-up components. Learn about pros and cons of prerequisite enforcement.
