GEAR

GEAR is a software program to use with your grammar textbooks. I expect that each of you will study from the computer as well as from your text book. You can use the Macintosh during open lab hours as well as during class. The lab hours are posted on the door.

Double click on the GEAR icon on the computer desk top. This is the grammar program that goes with your book (the chapter titles--not numbers match up).

Once you have opened GEAR--click anywhere as instructed.

If the table of contents does not appear, click on start over to begin. You always want to start over to erase the scores of the previous user. On the Table of Contents, click on the Unit that you are working on in your book. There will then appear on the opposite “page” a selection of chapters. Click on the Chapter title you want to work on. New pages will appear with questions on them. You choose and answer; if you choose correctly, you will be given an explanation of why your answer was right. If you choose the wrong answer, you will be shown the right answer and given an explanation also. To go to the next page, click on the arrow on the lower right side of the page. To review a previous question, click on the arrow on lower left side.

If you click on summary, you will receive your scores.

When you are finished with one chapter, you may go to the next one or you may QUIT. If you want to quit, click on the word Quit. The program will close. Please QUIT any program before leaving the computer; good manners and good housekeeping!

ALWAYS feel free to ask for help from the lab tech or an instructor.
