Grossmont College to induct KUSI's Dave Scott - Walk of Fame Ceremony May 14

El Cajon - Grossmont College alumnus and KUSI-TV meteorologist/reporter Dave Scott will be inducted into the Grossmont College "Walk of Fame" at a ceremony 11 a.m. May 14 in the college's Main Quad. "It is a true pleasure to honor such an accomplished and loyal alumnus," said Dr. Ted Martinez, Jr., Grossmont College president. "The Walk of Fame is a tradition that recognizes exemplary achievement and contributions to Grossmont College."

An award-winning television journalist, Scott has been a weather reporter for more than 10 years, covering sandstorms, flash floods, and severe weather events in Arizona, before taking on the "El Nino"-related storms in his hometown of San Diego.

He earned an associate of science degree at Grossmont College in 1980, and credits his professional success to the solid direction he received from Grossmont College faculty. He received a bachelor's degree in marketing from San Diego State University, and another bachelor's degree in geosciences/meteorology from Mississippi State University.

Besides covering the weather, Scott is the creator and former host of "More of the Wild", an animal series featuring the San Diego Zoo. Now called "Wonders of the Wild," the show airs Saturday mornings as part of KUSI's programming for children. Scott is also an accomplished jazz trombonist, recently completing a CD of original jazz and Latin music featuring some of San Diego's finest musicians.

Scott continues to assist his alma mater in special ways. He narrated Grossmont College's 40th anniversary video presentation and served as the master of ceremonies for the anniversary gala last year.

Scott will be the 10th person inducted into the Grossmont College Walk of Fame, established in 1989 to recognize alumni who have made community and civic contributions, excelled in their professional accomplishments, and have been involved in campus life at Grossmont College. Nominations are solicited from Grossmont College students, faculty and staff. Scott was nominated by Pat Palma, clerical assistant in the foreign languages department, who has been inspired by Scott's enthusiasm and praise for his teachers while at Grossmont College. "Who better to personify a student who has gone through Grossmont College, gone on to do what he loves to do in life, and who so eagerly credits those who encouraged and praised him?" said Palma.

Honorees' names are inscribed on a bronze plaque in the Main Quad. The Walk of Fame induction ceremony is coordinated under the auspices of the Associated Students of Grossmont College, which also provides funding for the event.

Past Walk of Fame honorees are: actor David Leisure (best known as Joe Isuzu) and athlete Joe Roth in 1989; Governing Board member Portia Goode and actor Robert 3
Hays (best known as the pilot with a fear of flying in the comedy, "Airplane") in 1990; children's advocate Deborah Ferrin in1993; advocate for the disabled Peter Mirche in 1994; counselor and parenting author Thomas McMahon in 1996; theater costume designer Gregg Barnes in1998; and chairman of the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians Anthony Pico in 2000.
