College Offers Customs Broker Licensing Course
Grossmont College will offer the only customs broker license
examination review course in Southern California beginning Saturday,
July 27. The course, held on six consecutive Saturdays, is designed
to help people working in the field of importing pass the rigorous
exam given twice annually by United States Customs. Less than ten
percent of the people attempting the exam pass.
The services of a licensed broker are
required to clear higher value shipments through customs. For
business entities engaged in importing, having a broker's license on
the premises is a definite asset. Customs broker's license holders
can also work for an established customs, freight forwarder, or can
start their own business.
Leslie Pembroke, a licensed broker since
1988 and an office manager for a local customs broker is course
instructor. According to Pembroke, "We have found that our course
can improve an individuals' chance of passing by 300 to 400 percent.
We made a computer analysis of the last several exams and identified
those sections of the customs regulations and tariffs that appear
most often on the exam."
Customs brokers must be U.S. citizens and
21 years of age.
For information about enrollment and fees,
call the Grossmont College International Business Program at
619-644-7519. There is a discount for early enrollment (30 days
before the start of the course) and for enrolling two or more
participants from the same company.
Classes will be held on the Grossmont
College campus, 8800 Grossmont College Drive, in the Griffin Gate
Seminar Room, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Driving instructions are available at
www.grossmont.net.
