(Class meets MW 4:00-5:20pm Rm. 225) Under the musical direction of Ms. Melonie Grinnell, the Grossmont College Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Synergy, is a vocal jazz choir that focuses on learning ensemble repertoire and performance skills. Consisting of 10-12 singers and a 4 piece band, Synergy performs standard and contemporary jazz repertory. Basic musical concepts of improvisation, intonation, combo, solo, and larger ensemble performance are incorporated into this course offering. As part of the performing and rehearsal environment, Synergy regularly works with its own jazz instrumental combo, providing ensemble, combo, and soloist opportunities for the members of the ensemble. They perform 2-3 times each semester. Past performance venues include East County Performing Arts Center (ECPAC), Point Loma Vocal Jazz Festival (San Diego,) Oceanside Jazz Vocal Festival and the CMEA Festival (San Diego.) *This semester we are excited to be involved in the U.S. West Coast premiere of Will Todd's Mass in Blue in conjunction with Grossmont Master Chorale conducted by Dr. Randall Tweed.
