Important Menu Items

Some of the most important menu items are:
File Menu
The File Menu has many useful entries. At this point, you will probably want to use the Save As and Print entries. If you want to save the text content of a page you are viewing, use Save As, select the Format of Text, and identify the directory or disk where you wish to save the document. This option will not save the graphics you are viewing, only the text. If you wish to print the document, including the graphics, use the Print entry on the File Menu. The other options will be explored later in the course.
Go Menu
The Go Menu keeps track of where you have been during your online session. Whenever you wish to return to a place you have been, use your Go Menu. When viewing the Go Menu, you will see the most commonly used commands at the the top of the menu. These are Back, Forward, Home, and Stop Loading. Back will take you back in your journey, one step at a time. Forward allows you to return to your present point one step at a time. Home takes you to the page designated as home at the workstation where you are working. This will vary, depending on where you are working. Stop Loading allows you to interrupt Netscape. In the event that a page is taking too long to appear on your screen, you can use the Stop Loading menu item to interrupt the process and go on with your session.

Below the most commonly used commands is a list of all the places that Netscape remembers you visiting during this session. Use this list to return to places you have previously visited during your session. This section of the menu is very important. You will want to use it often to return to the Internet Navigator course after you have taken side trips to explore various aspects of the Internet. Remember to use your Go Menu.

Click on a menu title below if you would like to see a brief description of the action of each menu item. Otherwise, use the arrow below to move on to the explanation of the Toolbar.

Pop-Up Menu

For quick access to some of the popular commands, use the Pop-Up Menu. In Windows, clicking the right mouse button produces the pop-up menu. On Macintosh, holding down the mouse button for about 2 seconds produces the pop-up menu. The pop-up menu is particularly useful when pressing the mouse button over a link or image. Over a link, menu items refer to the page specified by the link. Over an image, menu items refer to the image file specified by the image.
