Tutor Requirements

The Grossmont College Math Study Center is always looking for tutors. If you are good in math, posses good people skills, and are interested in being a tutor you may fill out the tutor application by clicking on the link below.

The tutors in the Math Study Center are screened for their knowledge of mathematics, patience, and their ability to communicate. They are also required to attend training workshops several times each semester and complete a tutor training course.

The minimum qualifications are: 
1.  All tutors must have completed Math 160 (Statistics)* & Math 180 (Calculus 1). *  with a grade  
     of "B" or higher. 
2.  All tutors must speak fluent English. 
3.  All tutors must be enrolled in at least six units (three during summer) at an accredited public institution. 
4.  All tutors must complete the tutor training course by the end of the first semester of 

* Exceptions can be made for work-study students & students recommended by instructors for tutoring special courses. Please contact the Math Study Center Lab Specialist or Faculty Cordinator in person.

The Math Study Center currently needs people who can tutor Math 120 (math for general education), math 125 (Structure/Concepts Elementary Math 1), & 126 (Structure/Concepts Elementary Math 1). You do not need to have Math 160 Statistics, or Math 180 Calculus in order to tutor these 3 classes.
