Recommended Preparation: Intermediate Swim: Successful completion of ES 043A or equivalent or specified skill competencies. Advanced Swim: Successful completion of ES 043B or equivalent or specified skill competencies. Course Description: Instruction and practice in four different swimming strokes and flip turns. The emphasis will be on stroke improvement, performance and conditioning. Students will also learn fundamental principles of physical fitness and their impact on life-long health and wellness. Course Objectives and Goals:

Methods of Evaluating Outcomes: Participation: daily participation is necessary to improve skill level and will be the MOST important factor in determining each students grade. Participation Grades: A = attend 29 or more workouts * Excessive absences may result in the
student being dropped from the class. As part of your Participation Grade, each person in this class must workout three times per week. Two workouts a week in this class and one time a week on your own. Any form of exercise is acceptable. However, it must be at least 30 minutes in duration while maintaining a specific target heart rate. You will document all workouts on your Mid-Term and Final Exams. Grading Policy: A = Grade of A in participation. Midterm.
Final Exam. B = Grade of B in participation. Midterm. C = Grade of C in participation. Midterm D = Grade of D in participation. F = Grade of F in participation Making up missed classes: Two missed class meetings can be made up by participation in a workout performed outside of class. Tardies: Please inform instructor prior to class meeting. Disruptive Behavior: Student with behavior detrimental to the class or other students will be removed from the class after one verbal warning. Swimming Attire / Equipment: 1. Swimsuits 3. Fins (optional) 2. Goggles and Swim Cap 4. Large Towel Rules and Regulations: Compliance with all rules and regulations in the Grossmont College Catalog will be expected. |
