Course Description:
A 16-week course designed to offer instruction and practical
experience for students interested in physical therapy, kinesiology,
occupational therapy and physical education. This course will
include hands-on experience assisting students enrolled in various
adapted exercise courses with their personal fitness program.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate teaching techniques and methods needed to assist individuals with special needs.
- Develop knowledge and skills necessary for pursuing a career in physical therapy, kinesiology, occupational therapy or
physical education.
- Develop awareness and knowledge of various disabling conditions.
- Assess and evaluate appropriate exercises for specific needs of students.
Student Responsibilities:
- Attend all class sessions, arrive on time and inform the
instructor of any early departures. Your student partner is
relying on your attendance for the entire class period.
- Read all materials distributed by the instructor and prepare
class assignments on time.
- Treat faculty and fellow students with respect.
- Participate in all assessments and class activities.
- Wear appropriate attire for activity. NO sandals,
dress shoes, tank or midriff tops.
- Behave professionally at all times.
- Report all accidents, injuries and dangerous conditions to
the instructor immediately.
Policies:
- Student is responsible for working in a safe manner and informing instructor of unsafe conditions.
- All cell phones must be turned off during the entire class.
- Food and beverages (other than water) are not allowed in class.
- No headphones or musical devices allowed during class.
- Lockers are available for storage of personal items.
- Student may be dropped after four absences.
- Student is responsible for all information and assignments.
- Student is required to follow the regulations in the official
catalog and class schedule.
- Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated and will lead to
disciplinary action by the college.
- Student not following responsibilities and policies of course will be withdrawn from class.
- Instructor reserves the right to adjust course content, assignments and testing assessments.
Course Evaluation:
- Participation (50% of course grade)
Fitness improvements will only occur with regular
participation and appropriate intensity.
