John and Gary, 1979
Though Pat Kyle is credited on the Berserker album, John Webb performed the
saxophone on the Berserker Tour of 1984. Continued (and unjustified) criticism of
Webb can be found even today, with accusations that, not only did he not actually
play his saxophone, but that he was in fact incapable of playing sax. Both Gary
Numan and his father Tony Webb dismiss these accusations as laughable, citing
Webb's lifelong musical abilities that include, among other instruments, the bagpipes.
The Webb brothers, close as ever, pose here in the same outfits each is respectively
sporting on the covers their recent singles.
By 1988, John Webb had committed to a career as an commercial airline pilot and,
with the exception of the occasional performance at some of Gary Numan's one-off
shows, did not involve himself in touring again.
