Tar and Cement Convention Tapes Wilson ~ Munro Hammer Filmography

Caroline Munro made many a celebrity appearance at international conventions dedicated to cult

fantasy, sci fi and horror.  In recent years, the renewed interest in the schlock horror films has

given Munro a kind of cult status of her own as Carla, the campy sidekick of Captain Kronos.   In

fact, while accompanying Christopher Lee to Hammer horror revivals worthy of a Kate Bush song,

Munro met future musical collaborator Gary Wilson.  (See "Wilson ~ Munro.")   Up until these

events, however, Munro's music career was in large part a matter of self-promotion, and she

relied on her popular appearances at the genre conventions to provide exposure for her demo

tracks--which, of course, included her Gary Numan collaboration, "Pump Me Up."

The audio cassettes displayed on this page represent two

different conventions where Caroline Munro distributed

her promo tapes.  AT LEFT is the Monster Model Fest '96

issue, and BELOW, AT RIGHT, is the 1993 Atlanta Fantasy

Fair issue; the two are identical in content.  Included on

the three track demo is the familiar "Pump Me Up," as

well as a "newer" song, "Everything I Need," that

advocated a country music sensibility Munro hoped would

be her new musical direction (though, in reality, the song

actually harkens back to older recordings with ex-husband

Judd Hamilton).  The demo also contains one older song

fragment that perhaps was included because it made the

entire demo cassette relevant at a horror-fantasy

convention:  "Warrior Of Love, " which she co-wrote and

performed for the 1984 slasher Don't Open 'Til Christmas.

(Click the title to link to the IMDB listing.)  "Warrior Of

Love" was clearly a relic from the recently retired era of

disco, but it was nonetheless suited to the film, which was

itself somewhat a hold-over from the 1970's Psycho-

inspired mysogynistic slashers.  (A redux of the song is

available exclusively in this site's Caroline Munro Lobby).

The pleasantly

surprising cohesive thread for these three very different

works is Munro's own spoken-word commentary and

introductions, which make the overall effect more like an

anthology of her recent musical career.  Following is the

general transcript and liner notes of the demo tapes:
