Online Developmental Psychology
Psy 165 using Blackboard

DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY will look at our development over the life span- from conception to death- and we’ll see how and why people change and how and why people remain the same as we grow older. Within each of eight life span periods, we'll study the development process from the point of view of  three distinct categories-  biosocial (physical), cognitive and psychosocial (social).
This online class will focus on issues of special interest to parents and students in fields such as child development, education, nursing, education, psychology, and social work.
I look forward to working with you throughout the semester.

PLEASE NOTE: this online course has a required on-campus orientation and two required on-campus exams:
the required and mandatory on-campus orientation is Sat., Jan 20, from 10:00-11:00 am in Room D111;
the required and mandatory on-campus exams are Sat March 10 from 10:00am-11:00am in room D111 & Sat May 19 from 10:00am - 11:00am in room D111.

In addition: you must have a working email account.

Please note that this is NOT a self-paced online class. A schedule is posted and you are expected to meet the deadlines/due dates for weekly quizzes, discussion board posts, and assignments.

We will be using Blackboard as our online system. It is fairly easy to use; for those of you who are used to WebCT, just navigate around the site. One thing though this version of Bb doesn't have its  own email system. You can email from the class site but you will receive and read  your emails from your normal email account.

On-line classes "meet" entirely online and can be assessed 7/24 from anywhere. The only on-campus meetings are an orientation and the two exams (see above). Yet they are different from face-to-face classes in another way; that is, you as the student have to take more responsibility for learning the course material; you must be more motivated, more organized, and more self-disciplined  than if you were taking a class on campus. You must consistently set aside at least 6-9 hours a week to study this material. One suggestion from a former “A” student is to actually write on a calendar the  times when you will study and faithfully stick to this schedule.
