Employment


On-Campus

  • Must be in Full-Time Status (12 units)
  • Limited to 20 hours a week
  • Have a Social Security Card or request Social Security number through the Admissions Office
  • Complete Grossmont College Personnel Forms

Curricular Practical Training

  • You must be enrolled in an academic program for 9 months (language schools don’t count)
  • You must declare a major and completed 9-12 units in that major
  • You must have a hire letter from the company that is going to employ you; job must be directly related to major
  • You must register for a minimum of 1 unit of work experience or special studies (see International Student Counselor for details)
  • You MUST see an International student counselor and meet ALL eligibility requirements (including submission and approval of “CPT Sign-Off Sheet”) BEFORE work authorization can be granted

Optional Practical Training

  • Job must be directly related to your major
  • 12 months maximum of Full-time authorized employment by BCIS
  • Can be Full-time or Part-time jobs (depending on when you are working)
  • You need to attend the practical training workshop or make an appointment to see a international student counselor

Off-Campus Employment Due to Financial Hardship

  • International Students are eligible to apply for off-campus work permission due to unforeseen financial hardship. Usually it is required that the student has been in status for 9 months and has made a good faith effort to find employment on-campus before applying for off-campus work permission.
