Voices from the Community

Dave Dillon came across this 10 minute video in the Chronicle for Higher Education and was moved by it. He asked us to pass it along. The Chronicle asked LGBTQ students what they want their professors to know. Watch what they said by clicking here (will open in a new window).

Frank Harris III and J. Luke Wood, from M2C3, have published a new blog in the Huffington Post. The blog is titled "The 3 Worst Job Types for College Men of Color."

Off Site Professional Learning Events

The following are off site professional development events that have been vetted by the professional development office and the Faculty Professional Development Committee, and which can be used to satisfy your professional development obligation.

Some events listed here may have a cost associated with them. Please follow the guidelines for applying for Professional Development Funds as well as offsite travel if you wish to use those to offset the cost of attending any of these events.

If you find out about an event, and would like to have it listed here, please use the link to the left to "Propose a Workshop for the Professional Development Calendar." If the FPDC approves, we will work to add it to our list here.

M2C3 Membership

We are pleased to announce Grossmont College’s membership in the Minority Male Community College Collaborative (M2C3) National Consortium on College Men of Color.

M2C3 is a project of San Diego State University’s Interwork Institute that was established with a grant from the San Diego State University Presidential Leadership Fund. The goal of the project is to partner with community colleges across the United States to enhance access, achievement, and success among minority male community college students. M2C3’s research and practice agenda prioritizes men who have been traditionally underrepresented and underserved in postsecondary education.

As a M2C3 member, Grossmont College will utilize:

  • Access to M2C3 webinars on men of color
  • Access to the M2C3 virtual discussion board
  • Participation in information-sharing on promising practices with other community colleges
  • Participation in an annual working group meeting hosted in San Diego

For more information visit M2C3 online, the Calendar of Professional Development Activities or contact Cindi Harris or Micah Jendian, Co-Coordinators of Professional Development.
