Grossmont Healthcare Richard Bea RN Memorial Nursing Scholarship Award 2009-2010

Award:            1st $3,000 2nd $1,500

Deadline:        September 25, 2009

Eligibility:

  • Must be a current resident of the Grossmont Healthcare District for a minimum of one year, or a graduate of high school within the District.

  • Shall have completed one successful year in a registered nursing program and provide evidence of current enrollment. (Any NLN-approved RN program)

  • Must provide evidence of community volunteer work, not necessarily in the nursing filed. (Volunteer work may be within either school or resident community).

  • Pervious scholarship recipients are not eligible to reapply.

  • Shall include a 500 word essay tilted "THE FUTURE OF NURSING IN MY COMMUNITY".

  • A letter of recommendation from a nursing instructor is required.

College Photographer of the Year

Award:            $1,000

Eligibility:

  • This is a competition in which your portfolio of photographs is judged by working media professionals in an open judging held in early November each year. Additional prizes such as cameras, film, and workshop fellowships are also awarded to top winners in the Portfolio, Documentary and Multimedia.

Persian Scholarship Foundation Recognition Awards

Award:            $1,000

Deadline:        December 14, 2009

Eligibility:

  • Currently enrolled student within a high school, college or university in the United States.

  • Publication of an essay/article within your school's newspaper or a local/national heritage of the Iranian people or the achievements of scholars, scientists and leaders of Iranian descent. The essay should aim to emphasize the positive achievements of Iran and Iranians and their contribution to society or enlightening aspects of history related to the Iranian-American community.

Alvin Cox Memorial Fund

Award:            $750 (12)

Eligibility:

There are no special eligibility requirements for the scholarship. All students may apply regardless of their race, nationality of financial status. We ask that each student who wishes to apply write a brief essay. The essay should be in size 12 font, and no longer than two pages single-spaced (four pages double). The essay must be based on the following topic:  Your reason for deciding to attend college-please discuss any factors that influenced your decision to pursue a college degree. You may discuss any people who affected your decision making process and explain how your decision may have been different without their influence.

Students who apply for the Scholarships.com History Scholarship will have the chance to earn $1,000 towards their college education—and it couldn’t be easier. Just respond to the following question in a 250 to 350 word essay (entries that fall outside of this word range will be disqualified):

Annual Create-A-Greeting-Card $10, 000 Scholarship Contest

Applicants are asked to design the front of the greeting card could be sold as an actual card in our line. Designs may consist of original photographs, artwork, and/or computer graphics. "Dream Deferred" Scholarship Essay Contest

Eligibility:The "Dream Deferred" Essay Contest on Civil Rights in the Middle East offers a chance for young Americans and Middle Easterners to express ideas on civil rights. If you live in the Middle East, what changes do you want to see? If you live in the US, how can you use your freedom to make a difference?
Guidelines: Essays must be between 600 and 1,500 words – in English, French, Arabic, or Farsi. Contestants must be under the age of 26 and from Arab League member countries, Iran, Afghanistan or the United States

John F. & Anna Lee Stacey Scholarship Fund

Eligibility: The John F. & Anna Lee Stacey Scholarship Fund is for students who would make art their profession. This award is intended for serious-minded students of conservative art; namely, painting and drawing.The scholarship is open to United States citizens only, both men and women, single or married, irrespective of race, creed or color. Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old. Appointments will normally be for one year and the amount available for distribution is approximately $5,000

Society for Technical Communication Scholarship

Award:            $1,500

Scholarship Description

The Society for Technical Communication is a professional organization for people developing technical information through such occupations as technical writing, editing, graphical design, interface design, and web design. The goal of the Society is to improve the transfer of information about science and technology from its developer (e.g., scientist, engineer, inventor) to its user or exploiter. These scholarships are for students working toward this goal.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must have completed at least one year of post-secondary education.

  • Applicants must be full-time students. They may be either graduate students working toward a Master’s or Doctor’s degree, or undergraduate students working toward a Bachelor’s degree.

  • Students should have at least one full year of academic work remaining to complete their degree programs, although under exceptional circumstances an award may be granted to a student for the final half-year.

NLHA Education Fund

The NLHA Education Fund was established as a 501(c)(3) organization to raise funds for the purpose of awarding education grants and scholarships to low income individuals residing in federally assisted rental housing owned, managed, or administered by members of the National Leased Housing Association. The National Leased Housing Association (NLHA) is nonprofit organization dedicated to the development and preservation of decent and safe affordable rental housing.

Who is Eligible

Residents of federally assisted low income housing properties or recipients of Section 8 voucher assistance that demonstrate both merit and need.

Types of Scholarships

The NLHA Education Fund will offer three types of scholarships in memory of three dedicated housing professional and active NLHA members:

Neil Churchill Memorial Scholarship: A past NLHA President and a true Section 8 advocate, Neil worked at HUD early in his career and went on to become a developer, bond underwriter and FHA specialist. Before his untimely death in 2003, he was a Vice President with GMAC. Neil devoted his entire career to affordable housing. This scholarship is for eligible applicants who are graduating high school seniors or current undergraduates who demonstrate both merit and need.

William F. Gandert Memorial Scholarship: Bill Gandert was instrumental in the creation of numerous public housing authorities in the State of Ohio and served as general counsel for many of them as well as Executive Director of the Mansfield, Crawford, Huron, Marion and Seneca County Metropolitan Housing Authorities. A vocal advocate for the poor, Bill helped found a number of poverty programs in his state and was an active NLHA member, serving as the organization's 7th President. This scholarship is to benefit an eligible graduating high school senior or returning student who demonstrates both merit and need to pursue educational opportunities in a specific trade.

 Mary Lou Manzie Memorial Scholarship: Mary Lou Manzie was a woman who dedicated her career to providing safe, decent and affordable housing. She was always willing to look at new and effortless ways to achieve that goal. A member of the National Leased Housing Association from 1975 until her death in 2006, she served as an Officer and Director of NLHA for many years. This scholarship is to benefit a non-traditional student in an encouraging and non-discriminatory way by providing eligible applicants who demonstrate both merit and need, a chance to pursue higher education or other training that will lead to better employment opportunities.

2009-2010 Real Estate Endowment Fund

Eligibility:

  • Real Estate Education Majors Only .

  • Applicants must complete 6 units (or the quarter equivalent) of Real Estate classes for each semester/quarter funded.

  • Applicants must demonstrate minimum 2.0 cumulative G.P.A. for all college courses: have financial need or meet income criteria.

Ashley Soulé Conroy Foundation Scholarship

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must currently be enrolled as an undergraduate student in good academic standing at
    a college or university in the United States.
  •  Applicant must have completed at least one year of college-level coursework at the time of
    application.

  •  Applicant must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75. Official transcript
    verifying GPA must also be submitted.

  •  Applicant must prove financial need from their home campus financial aid office or by
    completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

  •  Applicant must complete a 500-800 word essay on one of the following topics:
    (1) Please choose any place in the world that you have dreamed of visiting and explain why.
    (Not necessarily a place in which you are applying to study abroad).
    (2) Please tell us about an experience that has changed or shaped your life.

  •  Applicant must submit a resume, including any work experience and personal interests.

Bureau of Indian Affairs Higher Education Grant Program

Eligibility:

  • A student must be a member of or at least one-quarter degree Indian blood descendent of a member of an American Indian tribe who are eligible for the special programs and services provided by the United States through the Bureau of Indian Affairs to Indians because of their status as Indians.

  • Be accepted for admission to a nationally accredited institution of higher education that provides a course of study conferring the Associate of Arts or Bachelor’s degree.

  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the financial aid officer of
    the post-secondary institution.

  • The grant application is available from the education office of the Tribe in which you are affiliated or possess membership. As the majority of federally recognized tribes are administering the grant program for their tribal members, call your tribe first.

California Law Enforcement Personnel Dependents Grant Program (LEPD)

Scholarship Description: There is no application fee for the LEPD Grant Program.
Application Deadline: There is no deadline to apply (applications are accepted throughout the academic year).
Residency: U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen; California resident
Parent deceased or disabled: Firefighter, Police Officer or Public Safety Officer.
Award may be used for: Full time or Part time study.
Award may be used at: Two or Four-year college.

Designated institutions: California postsecondary institutions accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must demonstrate financial need and proof of eligibility.
  • Applicants are dependents or spouses of law enforcement officials (firefighter, police officer, or public safety officer) who were killed or 100% disabled as a result of an accident or injury in the performance of duty.

  • Other application requirements: Law Enforcement Personnel Dependents Grant application; copy of current Student Aid Report (SAR), which is generated after filing a FAFSA.

El Cajon Elks Lodge Scholarship in Voc/Tech

Award:             Up to $2,000.00

El Cajon Elks Lodge offers scholarship to qualified students and older students who require training and retraining. Applicants must be citizens of the United States and reside within the jurisdictional limits of the El Cajon Elks Lodge. Applicants must plan to pursue a two-year or less vocational/technical program. Applicants must plan to carry a minimum of 12 units each semester.   Applicants are asked to summarize the cost of their planned educational program and to summarize their financial ability to pay these costs.
