English as a Second Language 081
Introduction to ESL ~ Communication

Catalog Description: This six-hour component of the ESL bridging course focuses on oral skills and cross-culture communication principles necessary for students' success in a range of jobs and/or in the academic setting of the first level of ESL classes. Students learn the basic English communication skills as well as problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Concurrent enrollment in ESL 080 is strongly advised. This course is offered on a credit/no credit basis only. (nondegree credit course)

Course Prerequisites: None

Recommended Preparation: Advisory placement in ESL 080 or equivalent based on an ESL assessment process.

Semester Units: 6

Credit: ESL 081 is a non-degree credit course, which means that it does not count toward your A.A./A.S. degree. It odes, however, count as units for financial aid or work study.

Requirements: 6 hours each week in class and at least 12 hours of homework per week.
