Description
This course is designed to assist the foreign-born or
bilingual student in developing oral language skills through the improvement of
pronunciation, intonation, and correct language structure as it relates to
American English. The TBA (to be arranged) ? hour will be spent working on
individual student needs. This course is offered on a credit/no credit basis
only. (nondegree credit course)Course Objectives:
The students will ...
- Distinguish between American English phonemes.
- Produce the various American English phonemes.
- Develop intonation and stress appropriate to American
English.
- Employ pronunciation appropriate to American English.
- Evaluate correct syntax relative to American English.
- Conduct self analysis.
Semester Units: 3
Hours: 3 hours lecture plus 1/2 hours TBA

- Video recording and playback equipment
Special Materials Required of Student:
Two blank videotapes.
Course Content
- Discriminating between American English phonemes.
- Producing American English phonemes.
- Developing intonation and stress appropriate to American
English.
- Correctly pronouncing words and using them correctly in
sentences.
- Computer assisted self analyses.
