'Putting Students First' Plan Progresses

Although we are yet in the first phase of the Parking Structure project (lots of trenches and dirt for infrastructure), we are making progress with our plan to ‘make space for our students’ by providing off-site parking and shuttles for our faculty and staff. We appreciate Dana Quittner’s assistance with identification of a highly desirable location at the Cajon Air Center Parking Lot. We are on-schedule with our project. I am confident that our community, including our partners at the District, will come together in a united effort to help keep enrollment strong, protect parking revenue, and show our students that we do put them first.

Grossmont College’s School of Nursing developed a mentoring project for new adjunct clinical faculty which is featured in the December 3 issue of Nurseweek. Sharon Sullivan, RN, MSN, FNP, who is armed with a mini grant from the Grossmont Healthcare District, initiated the project which provides new adjunct nursing faculty with advice and practical tips as they first combine their nursing skills with teaching. According to the article, “Last semester, 17 of 18 adjunct faculty returned to teach. Most say it was the mentorship program – and Sullivan—that brought them back.” Thanks to Sharon Sullivan for helping our valued nursing program retain the adjunct faculty who are a critical component to our continued growth and success, and to the Grossmont Healthcare District for supporting the effort.
