Thanksgiving
Holiday November 24 and 25
As we look forward to our nation’s annual day of
Thanksgiving, I am reminded to express my gratitude to
our Grossmont College family, as well as to everyone in
our District, for your dedication and commitment to our
students every day. We are engaged in a wonderful
enterprise of education, and it is an honor to
participate.

Digital Arts and Sculpture
Building Complex

We were treated to perfect fall weather for the
groundbreaking ceremony for our new Digital Arts and
Sculpture Building Complex. Thank you for joining us to
celebrate this long-awaited project. Faculty and staff
were on hand, along with members of the Citizens Bond
Oversight Committee and many students to share in the
excitement. We especially appreciate the comments of
Jimmy Sprague, president of the Grossmont Sculpture
Club, and Trustee Cutting’s remarks about the importance
of art in our lives. Thank you all for sharing this very
special day with us. |
Walk of Fame Gala Generates Support
for Foundation, Honors for Students, Alumni, and
Business Partners
I
would also like to express my appreciation to the
members of our Governing Board and to so many others in
our Grossmont College community for your participation
in our annual Grossmont College Foundation Walk of Fame
Gala. It is always a pleasure to see everyone all
dressed up, having fun, and spending money for our
cause. Dave Scott was the perfect Master of Ceremonies!
Congratulations to Ernie Ewin and Dat Phan, our newest
inductees into the Walk of Fame.

Grossmont Leads Regional Nursing
Education Initiative
San Diego and Imperial County health care facilities can
expect an infusion of more than 200 new nurses in the
next few years thanks to a program now underway in our
local community colleges with Grossmont College as the
lead agency. With the assistance of new $2.051 million
funding from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Nurse
Education Initiative, Grossmont College is aligning with
San Diego City College, Southwestern College, Imperial
Valley College and a host of local healthcare facilities
and other agencies to address the chronic shortage of
registered nurses.
The three-year funding awarded to Grossmont through the
Center for Nursing Expansion/Innovation is to provide
additional enrollment opportunities for students who may
have been unable to enroll in impacted nursing programs.
