Grossmont College Authors Featured on Website
We invite you to visit the new Grossmont College Authors page on the Grossmont College website. This new component features five of the many Grossmont College authors already profiled in our continuing CAMPUS SCENE series, and we will add new profiles periodically. We are proud of the scholarship and dedication of our published faculty and staff, and believe this new web presence enhances Grossmont College’s reputation for academic rigor. You may access this new web page at www.grossmont.edu/gc_authors. There is an underscore between gc and authors. We have also established a display of the authors’ photos and their publications in the library.

Sheridan DeWolf Joins State Board
Sheridan DeWolfPublicly funded Early Care and Education Programs in California are the first steps for many low-income children into the world of education. The job of administering these programs belongs to a group of dedicated professionals who daily meet the challenges of managing budgets, curriculum, personnel and facilities.

The California Child Development Administrators Association (CCDAA) has been the professional organization in the State that has provided leadership to this administrative group since 1943. CCDAA provides leadership in advocating for high quality, accessible, and affordable early childhood care and education programs that support all children and their families.

This year CCDAA is indeed fortunate to have Sheridan DeWolf serving on our State Board. Sheridan’s dedication to improving the Early Care and Education System in California has led her colleagues to place her in a position of trust and leadership.

PTK Chapter Receives Award
PTK Chapter Receives AwardThe Beta Theta Chi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa has achieved the Pinnacle Silver level in Phi Theta Kappa’s 2004 Pinnacle Scholarship Award Program. The Pinnacle Scholarship Award Program encourages chapters to enhance their methods of communicating the benefits of membership to eligible students.

To earn the Pinnacle Silver Chapter designation, a chapter must increase its membership acceptance rate by 10% over the previous year. It is important for students to be made fully aware of the multitude of honors, benefits and opportunities available to them through membership in the Phi Theta Kappa. Letters to the President

letterDear Dr. Martinez:

I wanted you to let you know how pleased I am with one of your instructors, Assistant Professor Michael Golden. Professor Golden is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. His Biology class was exceptional. He was enthusiastic, extremely knowledgeable in his field, and genuinely cares about his students. Professor Golden always takes the time to answer his emails. I found I had to email him on weekends, he never let me down. My daughter who also has the privilege of having Professor Golden for a different Biology class, feels like I do. Professor Golden should be recognized for the extra efforts he puts forth. I don’t know what it takes, but he should be Professor Golden, not assistant. Thank you for employing an instructor who took the time to enhance our learning experience.

Sincerely,

Nancy Rundberg

letterDear President:

I have just completed California Geology 210 and Regional Field Studies in Geology 161A during the fall semester, and wish to express my appreciation for the opportunity of attending two of the finest classes that I have ever attended.

The breath and scope of the material covered by Dr. Hill is amazing. As the semester progresses, each week is an adventure into new and exciting vistas. Only with an instructor of Dr. Hill’s capabilities and dedication would this be possible.

I do not know who is responsible for assembling the staff for the Earth Science Department, but they are to be commended, as they are what a department should be. Their individual expertise combined as a whole is truly lucky to encounter instructors such as Professor Hill.

I am looking forward to Professor Hill’s Field Studies in Geology and Professor Jacobson’s Geology of National Parks in the spring.

Sincerely,

John Parker
Student
