Two Outstanding Events
Conclude 2003-2004 Academic Year |
On behalf of the Grossmont College community, I am
pleased to express my appreciation for the
support, leadership, and talent provided by our District
in bringing the new Learning and Technology Resource
Center to life. It was a grand celebration in honor of
the Grand Opening May 21 and I am pleased that we had a
lovely day and a beautiful ceremony. Our thanks to the
committee, led by Kats Gustafson and Dr. Curtis Stevens,
for their diligence and creativity, and for the efforts
of so many individuals to make it happen so flawlessly.
Commencement is always exhilarating, and our 43rd event
was greatly enhanced June 3 in the beautified new Main
Quad. The improved vista of the new LTRC certainly made
the ceremony inspiring. Again, there is a committee to
thank. Jack Peters and the Commencement planning
committee are to be commended! Thanks to all who joined
us at these events! |
End of Year Celebrations
Abound |
|
Our season of celebration began officially April 30 with
the 42nd Annual Student Service and Scholarship Awards.
Since then, we have honored Students of Note, and
celebrated Transfer Achievement. As educators we are
blessed to have these outstanding happy events to
symbolize our students’ successes! Our events included
the LTRC Grand Opening on May 21; the Nursing Pinning
Ceremony on June 1; Annual Commencement on June 3; the
OPT Graduation on June 4; and the Middle College High
School Graduation on June 10. |

Congratulations to Barry Bosworth who was honored at the San
Diego Playbill Awards as Best Supporting Actor in a Musical.
Grossmont College was the only community college honored in a
competition that included productions staged by the Old Globe
Theatre and the La Jolla Playhouse. I am proud that Grossmont
College has established the only Musical Theatre associate’s
degree in the State of California and wish to commend Shannon

Dear Dr. Martinez:
On behalf of the Steering Committee and all those
involved in the Leadership East County program, I would
like to thank you for hosting Future Vision Day. We

both Education and Future Vision Days.
Support from community leaders such as you have helped

community volunteers and activists. Once again, I would

Leadership East County program and the contributions you
have made to help make this program a success.

Dear Dr. Martinez:
We have received your recognition plaque of
international friendship between our two colleges. We
are greatly pleased and honored to find that our small
contribution is assisting your College Foundation and
students.
We sincerely appreciate the gift and your thoughtful
remarks about our contribution to Christy Seiler-Davis

office.
We are preparing for the 40th anniversary of our college

Dear Dr. Castaños:
On behalf of the City of San Diego’s Diversity
Commitment, I’d like to thank Tom Gamboa for his
assistance with a recent cultural awareness workshop
highlighting American Indian Culture in the Work Place.
Part of the City’s commitment to diversity includes
education regarding the various cultural heritages of
employees who work for the City. We look to cultural
experts such as Mr. Gamboa and others in this Cross
Cultural Studies Department, for assistance in ensuring
that our educational content is accurate. Tom was
extremely helpful in identifying other experts who could
contribute, and he was a pleasure to work with.
It was an honor and a privilege to work with Tom, and I
look forward to working with him or other members of his
department in the future.
Jeanine M. Hillis

Dear Dr. Martinez:
On behalf of the Patrick Henry High School Grad Nite
Committee, I would like to express our sincere thanks
for your donation of the beautiful mural painted by your
student and her assistants, Shelly Riessen.
Additionally, we would like to acknowledge the help of
the following staff members that made the acquisition of
this mural possible: Shannon O’Dunn, Debra Fitzsimons,
Tim Flood, Bill Mosley and of course students Shelly and
Dave Riessen.
As you know, this entire venture of providing our
graduating Seniors with a “Safe and Sober” Grad Night
experience could only be made possible through the
support of caring individuals, clubs and businesses, who
have so generously donated to our cause.
Thank you very much for your support.
