Middle School Constitution Competition
Three hundred eager eighth-grade students from five schools participated in the 15th Annual Constitution Competition, sponsored by “We the People” program January 16. They demonstrated their knowledge of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights by answering questions posed to them by community volunteers, who assumed the roles of members of Congress in a “hearing-type” setting. Thanks to Janet Castanos and Cuyamaca’s Tony Zambelli for their coordination of this important annual event.

Letter to the President

Dear President:

I just completed Geography 130 during the fall semester, and wish to express my appreciation for the opportunity of attending one of the finest classes that I have ever attended.

Professor Matherly is one of the best instructors I have ever had the privilege to encounter. His extensive collection of slides taken during his summer vacations, I do not think there was a location we covered in which he did not have a slide, personalized the journey with a touch of reality.

The material covered, considering the conditions in the world today, tied together classes I have taken in History, Political Science, and Economics. I believe the addition of Geography 130 as a core requirement for all undergraduates would enhance their understanding of the world today and better prepare them for the tasks that lie ahead.

I do not know who is responsible for assembling the staff for the Earth Science Department, but they are to be commended, as they are what a department should be. Their individual expertise combined as a whole is truly magnificent.

The quality of your instructors and instruction at Grossmont College continues to amaze me. The present generation is truly lucky to encounter instructors such as Professor Matherly.

I am looking forward to my continuing association with Grossmont College.

Sincerely,

John Parker
