Chief Matt Vadala Thanks Grossmont
During the October fires, the Orange County Fire Battalion found temporary quarters on the Grossmont College campus. Chief Matt Vadala sends his regards and thanks for Grossmont College hospitality during a difficult time. He had planned to present an award at the Governing Board meeting December 16. However, he was needed to assist with a fire on that date and was unable to attend as scheduled.

Griffins Play for State Football Championship
Griffin Football teamLast Saturday, the Griffin Football team played for the State Community College Football Championship at Bakersfield College, and lost in the last 33 seconds with a score of 38-35. A group of boosters traveled to Bakersfield on a chartered bus in order to provide support for our team. It was my distinct pleasure to present Coach of the Year Dave Jordan and four outstanding student athletes and to commend everyone involved with Griffin athletics for the fine job they do providing outstanding opportunities for our student athletes to succeed.

The Griffins are now rated number # 3 in the nation by JC Gridwire. Coach Dave Jordan will be one of only two community college coaches selected to speak at the National Football Coaches Association “Coach of the Year” Convention in Florida.

Enrollment Update
We have been registering students for the spring semester for a month, and are cautiously optimistic that our strategic enrollment planning assumptions are holding. While it appears that we are down slightly in overall units, we are mindful that there are almost five percent fewer sections available in this year’s class schedule compared to spring 2003. In other words, we are holding a steady course, as we planned.

Letters of Commendation

Chief William Lansdowne
San Diego Police Department

This is a letter to let you know of the exemplary service of one of your police dispatchers. Carl Rader is the instructor in my POST Public Safety Dispatchers Class at Grossmont College. This gentleman deserves to be recognized for his work in this class and how professionally he represents the San Diego Police Department.

Mr. Rader has conducted himself with the utmost of integrity during his presentations to this class. He is always willing to go the extra length to be sure all his students succeed! He stays late, comes in early and ensures a learning environment free of harassment and intimidation! His sense of humor is a welcome release to the serious subjects covered in class and clearly he cares about others! He is a role model to all of us who would like to serve the public as he does. His experience with San Diego Police Department has been invaluable in understanding real life situations that will undoubtedly occur in this field of work.

His approach to others is always respectful and thoughtful. He is extremely patient and tolerant of others and of less than ideal situations. You truly could not ask for a better representative of the San Diego Police Department in the community.

Dear Don Ridgeway
Cardiovascular Technology Program

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and the students from Grossmont College’s Cardiovascular Technology Program for performing the P.A.D. Screening for our CLUB 65 members and the Carotid Screening. As you can see from the enclosed evaluation summary sheets, the participants really appreciated the student’s efforts as well.

Don, I really appreciate you organizing these and mentoring the students. At the PAD Screening, we screened 83 people and found 11 who were referred to their physician for follow-up. That’s about 14% of the tested population. At the Carotid Screening, we screened 55 people and found 3 who were either referred to their physician for follow-up or were borderline and should be retested at a later date.

Thanks again, Don. You’re a joy to work with and I appreciate your giving spirit.
