Overall Design

Step 2: Designing the Layout

Decide on the navigation design, keeping link names short. Decide how to display your content and design a sitemap. A sitemap is a page which contains an organized listing of links to all pages within the website. It can be compared to a table of contents for a book.

To create the website, you will most likely require a program that helps with the designing and layout. If you have web designing software that you are familiar with, stick with it. Learn how to make whatever modifications you can to meet the accessibility guidelines within your software package.

Use the ‘help’ feature to search for key words like “accessibility”, “alt tags”, “tag and object accessibility”. This search will direct you to help with your specific program. If that fails, try an internet search using your software’s name and the word ‘accessibility’.
