Assistive Technology Center


The Assistive Technology Center (ATC) at Grossmont College features state-of-the-art assistive hardware and software, both conventional and assistive. Students may enroll in one of our adapted computing classes  offered in the fall and spring semesters, or come in during open lab hours available year round to learn to use our equipment.

A full-time lab aide and several part-time lab aides are available to demonstrate assistive technology for groups and individuals. In addition, students can receive guided assistance as they learn to use specific assistive products.

Hardware and software products in the ATC's collection include the following:

  • Alternative Input Hardware
  • Braille Translation Software and Braille Embosser
  • Computer-assisted Learning Software
  • Idea Generation Software
  • OCR Scanning/Reading Software
  • "Talking" Word Processing Software
  • Text Magnification Software and CCTV Magnification Hardware
  • Voice Recognition Software
  • Screen Reading Software


Each of the ATC's fifteen work stations feature adjustable tables and chairs for maximum physical accessibility.

The ATC is located in the LTRC, room number 70-135 on the first floor. Please call for information, including our schedule of open lab hours.
