Background

People often ask me, "Where do you come from?"

I was born and grew up in England. My hometown is Winchcombe in the Cotswolds, an area of rolling limestone hills with many picturesque villages.
High school was in the nearby town of Cheltenham SpaCheltenham was an important town in the early 19th century.
Today it is famous for its racecourse, its Georgian architecture and boarding schools.

I went to Manchester University in the Northwest of England.  The first stored-program computer was built at Manchester University in 1948.

I then worked as a computer programmer in Old Trafford near the Manchester United football team grounds. Manchester has rebuilt the city center since it was destroyed by an IRA bomb in 1996.
