Running Mastering Chemistry Via the Web

Browser Recommendation

We strongly recommend using Netscape's Web Browser version 4 or higher with Macromedia's Authorware Web Player.

Netscape's Web Browser (http://home.netscape.com/computing/download/index.html?cp=hom09pbro) version 4 or higher is strongly recommend. You may encounter errors when using any other web browser.

FONTS

Running Mastering Chemistry requires that the ChemSyn, Geneva and Bullit fonts be installed on your computer.

For Windows

Font Installation steps: (READ CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU PROCEED)

Mastering Chemistry requires specific fonts (ChemSyn, Geneva and Bullit) to be installed on your computer.

If you don't already have them, download (ftp) the fonts now for Windows (ftp://titanium.fullerton.edu/pub/fonts/win/mcwinfonts.exe).

Choose to save the file (mcwinfonts.exe) to your computer. For convenience, save the file to this location: C:\temp\mcfonts.exe (the temp folder/directory on your drive with the letter 'C').

When the download finishes, exit your web browser and follow these instructions:

ATTENTION! THIS IS ONLY FOR WINDOWS!

1.Open (double-click) the file (mcwinfonts.exe) within the temp folder.

2.Click OK in the first dialog (window).

3.Select the Unzip button in the second dialog (window).

4.Click OK in the third dialog when it has successfully finished.

5.Click the Close button from the second dialog.

6.There should be three new files: Bullit__.ttf, Chemsyn0.ttf and Geneva_2.ttf.

HINT: if you don't see the .ttf part, everything is still OK.

7.Use the Control Panel to locate the Fonts folder. The Control Panel can be accessed with the Start menu by scrolling to the Settings option.

8.Open the Fonts folder in the Control Panel.

9.Select the File menu from the Fonts window and scroll down to Install New Font... and choose this option.

10.You should have a window open called Add Fonts. Select the C: drive under Drives and locate the temp folder under Folders where the path will be C:\temp.

11.Select All fonts and then OK

12.You're done. Close the Fonts window and start Mastering Chemistry.

If you experience font problems in Windows after downloading and installing the required fonts, try restarting your computer and running Mastering Chemistry again.

For Macintosh

Font Installation steps: (READ CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU PROCEED)

MacOS (ftp://ftp.falconsoftware.com/pub/johnk/falconftp/mcfonts.sit). After downloading, you must install the fonts.

Drag and drop all the fonts on to your System Folder. Mastering Chemistry requires specific fonts (ChemSyn, Geneva and Bullit) to be installed on your computer.

If you don't already have them, download (ftp) the fonts now for MacOS and put them in the fonts folder which is in the System Folder.

AUTHORWARE PLUG-INS

Running Mastering Chemistry on the web also requires the installation of Macromedia's Authorware Web Player (Shockwave for AUTHORWARE Plug-in).

Locate the the above file you just downloaded and open it by double clicking. Follow the directions in the installation process.

For Macintosh

Download Authorware Web Player - Macintosh PPC Version: (http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveAuthorware&P2_Platform=MacPPC&P3_Browser_Version=NetscapePre4)

If you are experiencing freezes or crashes with Mastering Chemistry on a Power Mac, you might want to download the 68K version of the web player: (ftp://ftp.falconsoftware.com/pub/johnk/falconftp/Shockwave Fix.sit).

After the download finishes, exit your web browser and run the installation program. Follow the instructions given to properly install the Authorware Web Player. More directions are available at Macromedia (http://www.macromedia.com/downloads/).

Running Mastering Chemistry

When you run Mastering Chemistry, a dialog window appears (like this) asking you if you want to trust a file on our server. You should choose to trust (click Yes and OK). Each Unit will display this window. If you choose not to trust, then Mastering Chemistry will not run properly. HINT: Use the Security Options and choose to Trust all sites so this dialog window will not appear again and again.

ANIMATIONS

Besides Mastering Chemistry there are other resources on the titanium web site including animations. To run these programs you also need the Director plug-in for either Windows or Macintosh.
