Dr. Cynthia Shields, Interim Associate Dean EOPS/CARE/CalWORKs

Dr. Cynthia Shields

Dr. Cynthia Shields arrived at Grossmont College with an extensive background of administrative and counseling experience. Her most recent assignment was Director of Outreach and Public Relations at Long Beach City College. Prior assignments included Coordinator and Counselor for LBCC’s teacher preparation program designed to attract, recruit and retain ethnically diverse students to the teaching profession. She also served as a general and transfer counselor for TRIO programs there.

At Merced Community College, Shields served as Coordinator of Community Outreach and Re-Entry Programs, a K-12 outreach specialist, and a developmental English and reading instructor.

Shields says, “I am very happy to be part of Grossmont College and look forward to supporting and serving the students and staff within the EOPS department. I wish I had found Grossmont College and the EOPS position earlier in my educational career. In just these few months I have found the campus atmosphere to be warm and friendly and also academically rewarding. The EOPS Department is such a wonderful area to work in, with a competent, caring and hard-working staff that it will be difficult for me to leave at the end of my assignment here.”
