On October 16-18, hundreds of students met scores of
employers at Grossmont’s 28th annual Career Expo. Much of
the activities were conducted in the Main Quad, made festive
by canopies and curiosity. The heart of the event was information provided to students
by the various employers from both private and government
sectors. The voice of the event was heard in several
interesting ways, including mock interviews, workshops in
application writing as well as tips for “dressing for
success” and instruction in presenting a dynamic personal
presence during interviews. Faculty and administrators were
models in a “Runway Fashion Show,” with clothes provided by
Viejas Outlet Stores and Sears.
More than 100 exhibitors participated, including Alvarado
Hospital, the Automobile Club of Southern California, the
UCSD Medical Center, UPS, and the City of Los Angeles Police
and Fire Departments. The ASGC, Barona Valley Ranch Resort,
GEICO, and Sharp Health Care, were presenting sponsors of
the event. Career Expo Coordinators were Nancy Davis,
Student Development Supervisor, Pamela Abuka, Student Job
Placement Specialist, and Cindy Hall, Career Center
Specialist.
The ASGC and other college clubs staffed food booths during
the event, which was free of charge and made even more
festive with GIZMO, the college mascot.
Dr. Jack Robertson, founder of the S.O.A.R.ing Foundation,
was keynote speaker for the Expo, whose theme was “The
Velocity of Change.”
