When students are looking for jobs, and employers are looking for students looking for jobs, no one pays much attention to cloudy skies and the first sprinkles of a major Southern California rain event.

So it was Monday, Oct. 18, at Grossmont’s 26th annual Career Expo in the Main Quad. More than 50 area businesses and government agencies had their representatives at the event, including Sea World, the Hyatt Regency, Generations Health Care, the FBI, the San Diego Police Dept., and Channel 7/39.

Many of these accepted applications on the spot from students who came to the Expo dressed for success with resumes under their arms.

In all, more than 100 exhibitors participated in the event, which annually provides college and high school students an opportunity for contact with area employers and exposure to a wide range of job opportunities and career options. This year’s Expo theme was “The Global Market – Accept the Change.”

The event featured a Job Search Tune-Up workshop. Christine Aseron from Office Team conducted practice interviews, and Chris Malan from the East County Career Center reviewed resumes and helped prepare job applications.

Viejas Casino, UPS, GEICO and the ASGC were major sponsors for the event. ASGC and other college clubs set up food booths. Nancy Davis, Pamela Abuka and Cindy Hall of the Grossmont Career Center were the event’s organizers.
