District’s Combined Speech & Debate Team Hosts 13th Annual Griffin/Coyote Invitational

Colleges and universities from around the southwest came to Grossmont College in mid-November to compete in our highly regarded tournament. Coaches Roxanne Tuscany and Nancy Jennings prepared our competitors and organized the tournament. More than 225 students from 23 colleges and universities competed, including El Paso College (Texas) and Arizona State University.

Communication faculty participating in the event include Joel Castellaw, Tom Graves, Sheri Guseman, Nancy Jennings, Susan Jarboe, Tina Perez, Roxanne Tuscany and Kimberlee Wirig. More than 100 Grossmont Communication students assisted.

The team took fourth place in the community college division. Fifteen Grossmont/Cuyamaca students participated in the competition, and six students took awards:

bullet 2nd place: Raynita Johnson in Novice Program Oral Interpretation. (CC)

bullet Finalist: Jessica Williams-Holt in Novice Impromptu (GC)

 
bullet 10th Place Speaker Award: Farrah Moore in Junior Parliamentary Debate (GC).
