Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed a restful Spring Break.

As this issue of Campus Scene attests, we are rapidly approaching the busiest time of our calendar. Although we have been engaged in active discussions about funding and facilities, I would like to remind everyone that we must focus on the work at hand: teaching, learning, and student support. I believe that our Grossmont College community values our students and their success, putting students first, day in and day out.

I would like to express my appreciation to everyone who serves on any of our participatory governance committees. Committee and council work is rigorous, and requires an interest in and commitment to the subject matter, whether it be the College Cost Savings Task Force, the Educational Development and Innovation Committee, or the Staffing Committee. Dedicated faculty and staff share their time and talent to make Grossmont College a stronger institution. We will soon circulate a list of opportunities to participate in the 2005-2006 academic year.

During the next two months we have multiple options to celebrate student achievement and to recognize the many ways Grossmont College and our students excel. These celebrations remind us of our primary purpose as educators – our students and their accomplishments, and reward us as a community for our efforts.

We received some very good news! Our online edition of Campus Scene received a first place gold Paragon award in national competition sponsored by the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations. Please help me thank the talented group who help create and disseminate this e-newsletter for us.
