We are already at the midpoint in our spring semester, rapidly closing in on
the end of our 42nd academic year. Since last fall, the Grossmont College
Strategic Plan has been reviewed and updated for 2004-2010 through a
college-wide process. Our Strategic Plan, along with that of our sister
campus, Cuyamaca College, will provide a platform for the development of the
plan for the District. An improved process will link the objectives of the
Strategic Plan and the affiliated Educational Master Plan. During our recent
college retreat, we identified college-wide priorities to guide us and our
budget development process for 2004-2005.
Passage of State Propositions 57 and 58 in the
March 2 election gives us some hope that our fiscal future may be
stabilized. However, we are still one of the lowest funded community college
districts in the state, and the lack of funding parity continues to put our
students at an enormous disadvantage. We are hopeful that the Governor’s
proposal for Equalization funding will be enacted. If you agree, please
remember to let your legislators know!
Please take some time from your busy schedules to remember important
deadlines for nominations for Innovator of the Year (April 16 to the office
of
Dr. Dean Colli) and for the President’s Leadership Award (April 2 to the
president’s office.) Selections of full-time and adjunct Outstanding Faculty
by Division Deans/Councils are also due April 2. The Fifth Annual Grossmont
College Recognition Ceremony will be held Thursday, May 20 at 2 p.m. in the
Student Center.
Respectfully,
Ted Martinez, Jr.
