As we approach the final weeks of our traditional
summer, we look forward to opening Grossmont College's 45th academic year. I
have been thinking about the initiative and planning that took place in
those early years, and how exciting it must have been for those who had the
opportunity to be Grossmont's pioneers.
We are fortunate indeed to continue building on that legacy and appreciate
their wisdom in the organization of the campus and the selection of this
wonderful hilltop site. Early traditions have sustained us well, in both
reputation and in commitment to our mission. I would like to thank each and
every one of you for your continuing tenacity as we work to uphold the
highest standards in our service to students.
Please mark your calendars for the President's Convocation that marks the
official opening of the fall semester, August 15, beginning with a
continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. in the Student Center. We have planned an
upbeat and informative program to help set the tone for the coming year.
We are asking everyone to help support our recruitment and outreach
activities by distributing promotional literature during the next few weeks.
Materials are available in the Community Relations office, room 600B, or by
calling ext. 7868.
Thanks to all for accommodating the construction barrels and traffic
re-routing that is a byproduct of the construction of the new Life Safety
Road. It is but a preview of coming improvements in our learning environment
made possible by Prop R as well as local and state funding!
Respectfully,
Ted Martinez, Jr.
